Presentation of the projects for a Responsible Transformation of Society developed by the residents of UNIDEE 2008
UNIDEE in Residence, "creativity campus" of Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, offers the opportunity to become activators of projects for a Responsible Transformation of Society to artists, curators and managers of socio-cultural projects. Four months at Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto: workshops, lectures, discussions and collaborative projects.
The projects Unidee in Residence 2008 will be on exhibition in Cittadellarte until December 31, 2008

On Oct. 5th, we are going to present our work in progress at Cittadellarte. For the 5th, besides presenting "MIXITUP" website dedicated to Palestinian and Israeli singles, and "Caffe Sociale" events, I am also going to do a performance with Yael and Ahmad, and present "Onigiri (riceball)" recipe for Buffet together with Fravia. Our performance, a part of a installation Yael, Ahmad and I have been working on, is based on the idea that we use marriage as a tool to intervene into politics, which is perfectly summarized by the saying that represents political practice of Habsburg family, "let other people wage war. You, happy Austria,marry instead. For the goddess of Love gives lands to you that others must win by battle." We went through many phases, frustrated, angry at each other, attracted to each other as friends etc.. This installation I hope will show how complex this conflict is and small possibility/potentiality we found here in Biella together. If you are somewhere in Europe, please come and check it out. We have rooms to sleep.. just in case.
１０月５日にこのレジデンスの集大成としての発表がある。私はイスラエルとパレスチナの若者を対象にした出会い系サイト(MIXITUP)と、Caffe Socialeというカフェで行ったイベントシリーズの発表します。あと、当日にはちょっとしたパフォーマンスをするのと、Cittadellareteのカフェと一緒にビュッフェの料理を作ります。盛りだくさん。出会い系サイトと関連して、イスラエル人のヤエールとパレスチナ人のアメッドの「結婚」を扱ったインスタレーションも一緒に作っています。「戦争は他家に任せておけ。幸いなオーストリアよ、汝は結婚せよ」というハプスブルグ家の政治政略をヒントに、２つの国の関係、個人と紛争の関係を、結婚という言葉をヒントにして考えてきた私たち３人の道筋が分かるようなものになっています。このプロジェクトについては別の機会に記事をアップしたいと思っています。展示自体は１２月末まであるので、ヨーロッパに旅行予定の方は是非来てください。

頭がはちきれそう！！！と悲鳴をあげながら毎日を過ごしています。１０月５日にあるプロジェクト発表に向けて、関わっているプロジェクトが並行して進んでいて、たまに何をしたらいいのか分からなくなる。手を出しすぎたかな。。。ここまで詰まり詰まった日々は久しぶりです。こうしてビエラ通信を書いている間にも刻々と時間が過ぎて行く恐怖。でも、ここCittadellarteでも、オーガナイズする役割の面白さを日々実感している。いろんな人のプロジェクトに関わることができるし、自分が考えてみた事もなかったアイデア、自分とは違う働き方を目の当たりにして、フレキシブルに対応しつつ自分のアイデア守るという交渉の醍醐味を改めて感じています。
忙しい割には、抜かりなく美味しいレストラン、マーケット、カフェ，バー、食材チェックもしています。毎日夕方には、散歩も兼ねて街の検索／休憩に出かけて、どこで美味しいプロシュート、野菜、果物、ヨーグルトが変えるのか、実験をしています。いろんな店に顔を出す事で、ビエッラでも随分知り合いが増えてきたし、街の人達と話すことで、息抜きにもなる。下の写真は街で一番美味しいと思うカプチーノ。老舗のカフェで、ネクタイできりっと盛壮バリスタが入れてくれます。毎回ステキな模様を書いてくれて、プライドのこもったカプチーノが飲めます。小さな息抜きを楽しみながら、何とか持ちこたえる毎日。

UNIDEE alla Caffe Teatro-Sociale
Here are some information of the events we are organizing at Caffe Teatro-sociale in Biella. Through these 3 interventions, besides the fact that we want to share our creative energy and activity with people in Biella, we also want to investigate in what way we can communicate with people of Biella in the setting in which people do not choose to participate. With "Biellese Biennial of Video Art" we're playing with the big word "Biennial'... We'll see how it goes.
９月に企画しているイベントの紹介です。前にもイベントを開催した、カフェ・シアターという場所で行います。作品を紹介するだけでなく、選んで参加しているわけではない人達とどうやってコミュニケーションを取るかという実験でもあります。３つとも異なるレベルの参加が可能なので、一番最初に開催したイベントともあわせて京都でも活かせるようないいケーススタディーになると思う。凄い勢いでフライヤーを作り、言葉に四苦八苦しながら、街のプリント屋さんにカットしてもらう。言葉の条達はやっぱり日常の実践あるのみ。招待状としての役割としても使えるように工夫したつもり。

An idea becomes a projection. The projection becomes a reflection.
Initial thoughts of the UNIDEE 2008 participants for a "socially
responsible artwork'" will be projected outside of Café Teatro-Sociale.
The projected images are a compilation of power point presentations
given by the residents at the start of their four month residency at
Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto.
The images will not
physically touch you, but your presence will be changing them at the
same time. The projection is in transition, constantly evolving,
reflecting the UNIDEE residents journey of ideas throughout the
residency.
09/26/2008 [Biellese Biennial of Video Art] w/Pavlina
Biellese Biennial of Video Art presents a selection of video art from "Videoholica 2008 Festival," "10 years video art in Bulgaria" project, and various international video artists. It is worth mentioning the importance of hosting the Biennial in Biella, a city of cultural and historical richness, and this video festival is a part of diverse cultural activities happening in the city.
This year's selection includes more international artists, reflecting the innovative and experimental characters of video art, and changing social environment in which the artist live.
10/01/2008 [To Meet ] w/Manuela Macco con Yael Bar-On e Ahmad Malki
Due ragazzi con i capelli ricci si incontrano in un caffè. Yael è israeliana e Ahmad è palestinese, o forse il contrario. Due persone si incontrano. I performer stanno uno di fronte all'altro, si guardano per il tempo necessario. Lo scopo è conoscersi, incontrarsi. Non parlano di politica e neppure di religione, non parlano. Lo scambio avviene sul piano delle sensazioni.
Il luogo delle sensazioni è un luogo invisibile, non lo si può vedere, ma se si sta attenti lo si può sentire. Si sente con la pelle.
Notes from Biella vol.21
I invited Maritna from Wochenklausur as a part of Uni-topia On Sep. 19, which is a workshop/lecture series organized by the residents of UNIDEE. I have met Martina briefly in Vienna last year when I was passing by Vienna. I really admire the work they have done in the past, and Wochenklausur's projects have influenced the way I organize my projects. Here at Cittadellarte, we have talked about what "socially responsible transformation (SRT)" is all the time and I am curious to learn Wochenklausur's thoughts and practices in relation to SRT. I hope to update an article after the lecture.
念願がかなって、９月１９日にWochenklausurをCittadellarteに招くことができた。ずっとプレゼンテーションを聞きたいと思っていたので、嬉しい。日本にも呼びたいと思っていたけど、経済的にも日程的にも相当の覚悟がいるので、なかなか実現しないでいたけど、そこはヨーロッパ。日帰りで招待できる距離感覚と旅費の安さは素晴らしい。いままでこのレジデンスでしつこいくらい話してきた"アートを通して社会的に責任のある変化をもたらすとはどういうこと？"どんな変化が責任のある変化なの？"というかなり曖昧な問いについて、彼らの意見を聞けるのが嬉しい。レジデンスも終盤に入って、私も含めてみんながそれぞれのプロジェクトで忙しくなって来ていて、前半程答えのない堂々巡りの議論をする事が少なくなって来ているので、自分達にとってもいい機会だと思う。レクチャー終了後にまたレポートをアップしたいと思う。
Notes from Biella vol.19
今週の水曜日に、イタリア国境に近いフランスの街シャンベリーという街で島本さんに会う。イタリアのトリノからは電車で3時間弱。雰囲気のいい小さな街で、マカロンも、クロワッサンも、テリーヌもチーズを使った郷土料理も全部美味しかった。イタリアの小さな街に住んでいるのもあって、フランスの全てが洗練されているように思えた。チョコレートも美味しかったな。なんの予備知識もなく行ったわりには、当りの街でした。島本先生、いろいろありがとう！イタリア語を勉強中なのもあって、「ありがとう」というフランス語も出てこず、片言のイタリア語と英語が混ざった完璧にへんな日本人化していた。注意しないと。島本先生から日本の話を聞くと、そういえばいろいろ考えないと。。。という気分になりつつ、将来に対する不安感がびっくりする程湧いてこない。いつもだったらもっと不安になったりするのだけど、最近の楽観具合は自分でも驚いている。年齢のせいかしらん？
今日で夏休みも終わりで、明日から日常の忙しい日々が始まる。過去２ヶ月に飽きる程議論した内容をカタチにしていく作業をしないと。そしてレジデンス終了後に繋げていくための準備期間になります。とかいいつつ、NYから親友メリーがスロベニアに来るので、木曜日からはリュビアーナというスロベニアの首都へ旅行をしてきます。出会ってからかれこれ7〜８年、今回は２年ぶりの再会です。あと、スロベニアは数々の実験的なアートプロジェクトを生み出して来ている街なので、そのへんの事もちょっと覗いてきたいと思っています。
