[Schedule]
- 1:30 pm to 2:40 pm : Chernobyl Heart screening
This film, released in 2003, 17 years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, won the Best Documentary Short Subject award at the 2004 Academy Awards.
- 2:50 pm to 3:40 pm: Talk by Yuko Nishiyama: Children of Fukushima
After the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, Ms. Nishiyama fled her home in Fukushima City, taking refuge in Fushimi, Kyoto. Last December she established the Minnanote Kyoto Network for Evacuees and Supporters. She also started the Children’s Dream Summer Project, which supports children evacuated from the disaster area, by inviting their friends and families from Fukushima to Kyoto and helping them maintain bonds with the people they had to leave behind.
