Kanta Horio creates musical performances and installations using everyday objects such as kettles and homemade devices assembled from electrical junk and electromagnets. As if he were using magic and sleight of hand, he makes us aware that the world we live in is full of sound. Contact Gonzo is, simply put, guys physically colliding with each other. Even though this can look as if they are fighting, there is also a sublime sense of ceremony to their actions. Watching their collisions, we are able to feel their pain, but this also enables us to view our own bodies in a new way. These two will hold a joint performance at the Social Kitchen. Seemingly, contact Gonzo has asked Kanta Horio a special favor. Whatever the case, let's see what will happen.

Kanta Horio
Artist. Born in 1978 in Hiroshima. A graduate with a master degree in acoustic design from Kyushu Institute of Design's Graduate School of Design, which is now part of Kyushu University. He combines electromagnets and motors, microphones and junk to create his own handmade devices which he uses in his musical performances and installations both in Japan and abroad. He is the organizer of "Dorkbot Tokyo," a group that holds meetings for artists, engineers, designers and anyone who is interested in creating things with electricity, and is also a member of the geeky-arty creative collective called "4nchor5 la6". He performed with Yoshihide Otomo in the performance piece "Ensembles 2010 - Resonance" held at the Art Tower Mito which ran until January 16th 2011.

contact Gonzo
"contact Gonzo" is a dance method developed and named by dancers Yu Kakio and Yuya Tsukahara in 2006. Using their methodology, they attempt to decipher how the world works through a variety of momentary incidents triggered by the simple and physical phenomenon of the contact which occurs between performers. As well as stage performances, their use of YouTube to immediately showcase their work, is widely known. Currently based in Osaka, Keigo Mikajiri, Itaru Kato, Yu Kanai, Yuya Tsukahara also work internationally. They will be featured in the art exhibition " Kaza Ana / Air Hole: Another Form of Conceptualism from Asia" opening on March 8th 2011at the National Museum of Art in Osaka.
