Last year, I made an embarrassing mistake, that is i overslept and missed a plane for Europe. Not to repeat the same mistake this year, I asked 4 wonderful people to give me morning calls on Friday morning, my departure day for Italy. Thanks to those friends, who are all supportive of my inability to wake up, everything was super ready even before cab's pick up time. I cleaned up my room, left memos, and did everything necessary. While I was enjoying last chat w/my roommate, I was expressing my suspicion that things are weirdly too smooth that something must happen!!! I arrived at Kansai Airport and landed in Shanghai for staying overnight, again without no problem. And the next morning, I left my hotel around 10:30 to catch my flight that, i thought, would leave Shanghai at 1:30 afternoon. At the airport though, I was looking at a flight information board, and strangely there was no flight going to Milan. I asked people there and they said me that my flight would leave the airport at 1:30 midnight. hahaha. They laughed pretty laud and gave me, "I am sorry' look. I was embarrassed, but laughed with them too. I knew that things could not go on without usual mistake. So at the airport, my temporary house, I am using blank time to do a kind of work i have escaped, reading books, and eating airport food. 6 more hours, then I'll be on the plane. One good thing I can think of is that by making mistakes like this all the time makes everything in my life a little bit more dramatic and spice it up!. I suppose it is a good thing!?
The sad and cruel murder happened in Akihabara, Tokyo. I have no way to sympathize this self-conscious guy with full of stupid narcism. But I cannot help but think that we are the ones who have mass-produced a type of people with no attachment to the society. We are the ones who pushed this society to be dangerously anonymous to the point where you can get by a day without speaking one word (take the automatic identification system, for example, which recently installed to all cigarette vending machines for god sake!). Jobs available are mostly temp jobs that ANYONE can replace ANYONE, no problem, and the cities we are living are full of big retailers with no human relationships. We OK ed to create a society aroud MUJI, Uniqlo Nike, Family Mart, and other big giants coorporations because it's cheap and convenient, even though depending on thse companies means we can only secure part-time, unstable, temp stuff type of jobs. Yes, majority of people are hanging tough, and trying to make best out of what's offered and available. But it does not need a genius to figure out that having people who feel no attachment whatsoever to the society, is dangerous. We can't go on like this. Unless we protect others, their life, their diginity, their uniqueness, we are not able to protect ourselves either. We are all on the same boat.
Tonight's hanare was packed too. We have shortage on dinner sets and chairs, lately. We had Nishio-san, who recently moved to Kyoto, and his girlfriend, Sone-san tonight. Nishio-san has been creating works that focus on the idea of re-thinking identities defined by fashion, removing them in order for us to communicate with each other differently. Like tonight, we have been meeting interesting, driven, creative people here with whom we can do lots of interesting and challenging projects together. Though, I also feel necessary to take a pause and think about actual ideas of what and how we are going to do. From the next week, I am leaving here for Italy to participate in the residential program, and [hanare] will be run by Naho, and Yufuko with my sister Miho, and yoda giving them hands. In the meantime, there will be lots of actions planned for this web, and our activity will extend to European countries. So long my dear Japanese people, and hello to Italian friends.
Thank you for coming out in tonight's heavy rain. We expected that tonight would be slow night. We had art students with portfolios and new and regular customers. As Naho writes in her column [eat], we did Plum Wine Extravaganza during daytime. We bought out all the bags on a shell, and made 10 big bottles of plum wine. It's better to do this type of work with friends becase it's not just about making the wines, but about sharing stories and exchanging ideas. Our wine will be ready in 6 month.
I was researching my hero, 2pac online, and encountered his interview video, which was never aired. This genius rapper died so young, at the age 26. In this interview, he talked about his experience in growing up in poverty, economic and racial injustice deeply rooted in the American society, in an honest and powerful way. By knowing his music in the US, I understood the power of rap music. The American presidential candidates should listen to his words.
